Bring Me the Horizon at OVO Hydro, Glasgow
From the moment I stepped into the venue this night did not disappoint for one second. It goes without saying Bring Me the Horizon put on a great show; but the work around the performance was also noteworthy. There was no stone left unturned regarding the setup, with extremely impressive visuals including a dynamic and aesthetically pleasing set of lights, illuminating the stage also creating the atmosphere the lively crowd were looking for at the right moments.
The backup dancers were also incredibly good and killed it on every song, and the effort put into the visuals was emphasised with the interactive cage they lowered around the stage which had animations specific to the song at the time. I love when an artist or band really involve the crowd in their show, and Bring Me the Horizon definitely did this.
First impressions and visuals aside, It was surreal being back at a packed gig after over a year of pandemic, the energy was palpable from before they even started. It helped that the support band, You Me at Six, shared some of the same fan base and excited everyone with a good performance. It was great to see everyone coming together for the music we all love and there was definitely a sense of community and euphoria in the air. I felt this especially when they played older songs from their Sempiternal era, the atmosphere and energy in the crowd was crazy. It wasn’t long before my inner emo burst out and I was screaming lyrics with the rest of the crowd.
I’ve been a big fan of Bring Me the Horizon since I was around 14, back in my emo days. Sempiternal was probably the first album of theirs I listened to. Judging by the age of the attendees I wasn’t the only one feeling this and a euphoric wave of nostalgia made its way through the crowd as they got into the performance; fusing some of their classics with just the right blend of new material.
Although admittedly prior to this performance, I was unfamiliar with some of their newer songs, this concert was amazing and it has made me very keen to listen to their upcoming music, and look out for them in the future. They haven’t gained a fan in me; but they have reignited a fire inside me and many more fans. Highly recommend.
