Forgetting the Future - Latch
Chloe Gill
‘Forgetting the Future’ is an upcoming indie-rock band from Thurso, who recently released a feel-good, fresh single earlier this summer 2018, which is near impossible not to fall in love with.
From the second ‘Latch’ begins with its punchy drum-beat and electric guitar, you instantly catch the urge to dance due to its upbeat rhythm, packed with effects and riffs - even just in the short intro - which is consistent throughout the whole track.
The intro smoothly leads into the first verse which is quite moving due to the perfect combination of instruments and Robbie McNicol’s expressive vocals. This gives the song quite a dark and dramatic result, however it quickly builds up into a bold, ‘unforgettable’ chorus with a powerful beat and lyrics. This is where the title of the tune comes from, as McNicol is singing to somebody to “latch out” on him.
To me, one of the best qualities about the song is its tasteful dynamics which carry through, and are constantly engaging and easy to get lost in.
From its interesting lyrics to their unique sound of the whole band combined together to create an original and delightful piece, there are many elements of the single that makes it so extraordinary. All in all, this is a well organised track that clearly displays the groups passion for their music. Currently the four-piece band are still fairly small however I believe their career in the music industry is pretty secure, especially considering the large increase of indie listeners, hopefully giving them a future they cannot forget.
