Travel is a blessing that we should take full advantage of. A gateway to the boundless and unique cultures that the world has to offer, that you may just fall in love with and wonder why you never got there sooner. Giving you a chance to learn more about what life has to offer and what you like as an individual.
I’ve only been in Kuala Lumpur for 4 days but I can confidently say, I have never been more captivated and excited by a city and it’s culture like this.
Arriving in the city centre around 7pm, we were greeted by the comfortable humid heat and the infectious hustle and bustle of the crowds. The sun might have been winding down but the people in the streets were lively and awake, as if the glowing, radiant shop signs and lights surrounding them were guiding them to their next destination.
A grand, lit up fountain lay as the centrepiece just outside the entrance of the Pavilion Mall which scaled through the sky with its seven floors. The grandiose appeal of the place was just getting started, entering through the main doors I was astonished by the number of impressive fashion stores gathered together under 1 roof: Gucci, Prada, Balenciaga, Moschino, Alexander McQueen, the list could go on and on. I had never seen anything like it. It was a spectacle to behold but I swiftly moved on to seek a more affordable venture.
And that’s how I ended up in the food court. But rather than a food court, it was more of a culinary theatre. Flames dancing, friers bubbling with golden hue and lots of exotic ingredients lining each stall like shiny coins spilling out of a full treasure chest. And after cooking the food in front of you like a live show, the spectacular tastes that followed served as the perfect main event.
Also, the prices of food in Malaysia are similar to that of Scotland, with the exchange rate about 5 to 1. So knowing that the food you’re eating is 5 times cheaper but nonetheless has a fantastic and one of a kind taste is fantastic.
This trip also influenced my perception of the world around me through photography.
The beauty and radiance of the Thean Hou temple was absolutely mesmerising, in particular the loudness of the building’s red colour, the sick shadows created by the light and the inspiring symmetry.
I don’t know photography terms well enough to delve into WHY these photos are appealing so I shall stick with:
COOL
AWESOME
THAT’S RAD GRAMPS
(Someone plz teach me technicalities of why camra make gd photo @rizzle_ma_nizzle)
Alas, we are digressing, so I’m aware that 90% of this was about food but hey the internet wouldn’t work without people and people don’t work without food.
Food is difficult to describe so I think next time I’ll just get someone to film me while I eat different foods and my reactions will tell more of a story than words.
So in the end, I decided I want Malaysia to be my home. I am going to move here in the future because the place seems brimming with life and progress and it feels utterly amazing and I feel like I know myself better as a person.
