"Humour Unveils UK Tour for 'Learning Greek'"
Glasgow’s rising alternative band, Humour, is thrilled to announce their debut album, “Learning Greek,” set to release on August 8th through So Young Records. Following on from their well-received EPs, “Pure Misery” and “A Small Crowd Gathered To Watch Me,” this album showcases an impressive 11 tracks that meld intense riffs with emotional depth, reflecting their unique take on the popular loud/quiet dynamic often embraced by post-hardcore artists.
The album’s lead single, “Neighbours,” marked the band’s triumphant return, earning them a spot on the BBC 6 Music playlist, which has been a significant milestone for the five-piece band. They continue the momentum with a brand new track, “Plagiarist,” which premiered on Steve Lamacq’s show—a powerful piece echoing their post-hardcore roots while artfully balancing melodic hooks with an undercurrent of introspective lyrics.
At its core, “Plagiarist” explores the pressures faced by a lyricist confronting a creative block, portraying the protagonist’s struggle as they grapple with the fear of being exposed as a fraud. Vocalist Andreas Christodoulidis elaborates on the song’s themes, inviting listeners to empathize with the character’s plight of feeling inspired yet fundamentally empty.
Produced by Rod Jones of Idlewild at Post Electric studios in Edinburgh, “Learning Greek” aims to create an immersive listening experience with various formats available for pre-order, including exclusive editions with unique designs and zines featuring original artwork and lyrics by Christodoulidis. The emotional and cultural resonance of the album isn’t just a personal journey for the band; it’s an exploration of identity, heritage, and the complexities of reconciling one’s past with the present.
In conjunction with the album announcement, Humour is set to embark on their most extensive UK headline tour in November, showcasing their high-energy live performances across a range of cities, including Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, and London. Tickets go on sale this Thursday at 10 AM, so fans are encouraged to act quickly to secure their spot.
This tour is not just a celebration of the new album but also encapsulates the band’s evolution since their inception, with live performances characterized by their exciting dynamics and raw energy. Having increasingly garnered attention and praise from renowned music outlets like NME and DIY, Humour’s dedicated fan base is anticipating what promises to be an exhilarating live show experience.
“Learning Greek” serves as both a profound musical exploration and cultural commentary, blending candid reflections with sonically loaded instrumentation. Drawing from personal narratives intertwined with broader historical contexts, the record presents a tapestry that makes the band’s artistry relatable and poignant.
As the band prepares for their tour and album release, their presence in the alternative music scene continues to grow, paving the way for a future filled with promise and artistic exploration.
