Jesus Piece / Neuroprison – The Shape of Modern Hardcore
We are a matter of weeks away from Jesus Piece’s debut LP Only Self and thankfully we have been gifted a second track to ease the pain of waiting on such a highly-anticipated release.
Philadelphia’s own have pushed their brand of dark hardcore into a chaotic wildlife that is both abrasive yet refined. A band that has been leading this new frontline of cathartic hardcore since branching out of the US onto the global scene following their highly-acclaimed self-titled EP and the viral sensation that was their This is Hardcore 2017 set where Kodi the Supergirl featured during their track ‘Sinking’ (if you aren’t aware of this, look up “Kodi the Supergirl feat Jesus Piece” and I guarantee you will not be disappointed).
Following on from “Curse of the Serpent”, their first single release of Only Self Jesus Piece have assaulted our eardrums with second track ”Neuroprison”.
Exacting influence from the likes of Converge and emanating a sound where simple isn’t necessarily less, they know exactly when and how to bring the fire. From the thunderous first note where we’re carried on a burning chariot at blistering pace right on through to the skull-crushing snare hits of each verse and breakdown.
In the immortal words of JP’s Aaron Heard “this is Jesus Piece you fake ass motherfucker” and they sure as hell aren’t letting you forgot that here.
Only Self released on Southern Lord on the 24th August.
