New Rebel Cult - Out of Your Hands
Before I say anything about the tune, the artwork for this is fucking class.
The song takes off with a chorus soaked guitar riff which is quickly thrown into a psychedelic tape stop which, by the way, are banging and seem to becoming a staple of scottish punk. This tape stop in particular is tidy as fuck because it sounds like the guitar riff freezes in time then gets sucked into a void that then spits it back out, right in your face.
The first lyrics of this song I must say are not good advice. At no point when driving should you take your hands off the wheel, unless you’re putting this song on. I’m a big fan of the guitar tones in this. They’re wet and rough like the north sea and the tight rhythm section makes the band sound like a well oiled machine. I think this is perfect car-chase music actually. If I heisted the fuck out a bank this would be at the top of my getaway playlist.
I think the build up in the second pre-chorus is fucking ear-candy. Those big tom hits sound like bombs dropping. The chorus is catchy as fuck as well. There’s an essence of the rolling stones in there somewhere too which I love. But now on to ma favourite bit of the tune… the guitar solo.
There’s not enough guitar solos in music anymore but this one makes me want to become a surfer. It’s reminiscent of FIDLAR who are class and like early Orwells before they ended up being creepers. It’s twangy first half rolls into my ears quite nicely then BAM! Tape stop. Straight into another one. I actual love this tune. New Rebel Cult are actual class man. Get them on next time you’re running away from the polis.
Catch them supporting Bad Hombres at Control Social Club on March 2nd
