Offline – Debut Single Review

Up-and-coming Aberdonian band Offline went from support slots to headlining their own

show as only their third appearance, which sold out in just two days. It’s safe to say that their debut single, ‘Seasons’, was eagerly anticipated by the time February 15 th rolled around. Competing for local attention with Velveteen Riot’s dreamy new single ‘Peaches’, it managed to hold its own and generate a fair amount of buzz.

The opening section struck a chord as being comfortingly familiar, perhaps as a result of the band’s varied influences. While it is a little longer than most radio-friendly tracks at 4 and a half minutes, it surprisingly doesn’t feel dragged out. The musicianship of the group is clear, but one can’t help but wonder if this is too safe a choice for them.

All in all, ‘Seasons’ is an upbeat, well-driven and thought out indie rock track. While I have the deepest respect for the boys in Offline, I want to see them push their ideas further and perhaps deliver something out of their comfort zone. We may yet find out if they will.
