BODEGA, the NYC quintet known for their innovative sound, has just released an EP under the alter-ego name NODEGA. Titled “Rot In Helvetica,” the new project is now available via Chrysalis Records. This EP, comprising eight tracks, blends elements of hardcore, thrash, skate punk, and indie-rock, delivering a potent critique of modern disillusionment while also holding on to a thread of optimism.

The EP’s official video for the track “Quantify” has also been released, offering a visual narrative that echoes the sentiments discussed in the lyrics about societal pressures from corporations and the incessant need to quantify experiences. The video complements the themes of the song, showcasing a call to resist the conformist dictates of tech giants and financial elites.

Guitarist and vocalist Ben Hozie commented on the inspiration behind NODEGA, reflecting on their last album “Our Brand Could Be Yr Life,” which examined the corporatization of indie rock. Hozie revisited the roots of classic American indie bands, connecting them to the hardcore scene of the early ‘80s. This connection highlights a desire to reject the sanitized version of indie music that dominates today’s landscape, in favor of a raw, furious expression that channels youthful rebellion against the status quo.

BODEGA is kicking off their UK tour next week, beginning with a special in-store performance at Rough Trade in New York City, already creating a buzz with anticipated shows across the UK. Their tour kicks off on July 23 in Manchester, where they will perform multiple dates including a sold-out showcase at London’s Shacklewell Arms on August 2, and culminating in a performance at the Deer Shed Festival the following week.

The tour showcases tracks from “Rot In Helvetica,” with a setlist designed to evoke the unfiltered energy of punk rock infused with contemporary themes. Fans can expect high-octane performances that resonate with both nostalgia and a pressing urgency in today’s sociopolitical climate.

Following the UK leg of their tour, BODEGA will continue to broaden their reach with a special performance supporting the acclaimed band Viagra Boys in Montreal on September 22. This expansion signals the band’s growing influence within the alternative music scene.

Listeners can delve into the EP now, with streaming options available across various platforms. The tracklist includes standouts such as “Monthly Follower,” “Guess What,” and “Gestation Crate,” showcasing the band’s multifaceted approach to songwriting and musicality.
