DEADWOOD – THE NEW ‘CLASSIC’
Finding the perfect vintage leather jacket is a common endeavour that few actually accomplish. I’ve owned several thrift store biker jackets in my life but none of them were quite what I wanted. They were always too short in the sleeves, the leather was too squeaky or they smelled of sweat and smoke from your uncle’s punk phase.
So I resigned myself to compromise. Ill-fitting jackets were my uniform for years. That was until recently when I acquired my dream biker jacket from Swedish brand DEADWOOD.
Founded in 2012 Deadwood aim to couple beautiful, reclaimed vintage leather with an updated modern silhouette.
Speaking with Lucas at Deadwood, he said ‘we love to do things differently and needless to say we’re proud of our unique way of sourcing and manufacturing. We basically collect used garments from vintage markets and make use of faulty production and off cuts from the leather industry. These garments, bits and pieces may look useless to some but we have learned to spot diamonds in the rough. The garments are brought to our atelier where we take them apart and use the best pieces of leather as raw material for our own designs. Each garment is then individually patched together in a symmetrical and subtle way. The result is a beautiful leather garment with a buttery soft feel and a soul that leaves your conscience clean.’’
Co-founder Felix von Bahder explains that ‘the idea of blurring the lines between new and used always felt interesting’. He continues, ‘In a time where sustainable fashion is often high tech, our solution is quite lo-fi. I think it appeals to common sense’.
DEADWOOD are a vibrant company with exceptional customer service. The classic black biker jacket arrived a few days after I placed the order and came presented in a black tote bag which I continue to use every day. Now, the jacket was pretty tight when I first put it on but after two days the fit was amazing and I’d recommend DEADWOOD leather jackets to anyone looking for a high quality leather jacket, made with the timeless attitude of a vintage jacket.
