A sit down with Shambolics

A sit down with Shambolics

Just before they headlined Aberdeen’s House of Jack festival, I was able to catch up with the newly signed Shambolics.

How do you feel about headlining a festival after working so hard with your music?

“Buzzin’…especially being only our second time playing here [Aberdeen].”

How did you find your first time in Aberdeen?

“It was really good; a lot of people were waiting for us. A lot better than we expected.”

I know a lot of bands have a specific playlist for the tour van, who are (or would be) essentials on your tour playlist?

“Everything, it goes from ABBA to Tupac to Mӧtley Crüe.”

What music did you grow up listening to?

“The Beatles, Stone Roses, Oasis, Fleetwood Mac and The Clash. Stuff from the 60’s right up to nowadays.”

It can probably be quite tiring, gigging and writing music while trying to balance your personal life. What motivates you to continue writing new music?

“Mad gigs…when you see people singing the words back to you (and because we enjoy it.)”

Speaking of writing music, what’s your writing process?

“It can come any way, melody or lyrics first. It’s just organic.”

Last month, Alan McGee signed you to his record label (Creation23). What was that like and how did that happen?

“A fan came up to him [Alan McGee] at a Gerry Cinnamon gig and asked him if he’d heard of us. Invited us to Edinburgh for a Q&A…went to one of our shows and signed us on the spot. It’s brilliant.”

Now that you’re working with a record label, what do you have in store for us?

“We’ve got a new single coming soon, it’s nearly ready.”

Thanks to Lewis, Jordan, Jake and Darren for giving up their time to answer all my questions.
