LA POST-PUNK TRIO AUTOMATIC RELEASES DEBUT ALBUM SIGNAL ON STONES THROW TODAY
"...brooding pop with post-punk lashings, best listened to in the darkest corner of the club" - NME
"...reflects the anxieties of punk music in equal measure with the desperate-for-connection mentalities of club music." - Paste
"Inspired by motorik tendencies of Neu!, post-punk iconoclasts like Suicide and the dub-infused sound of Dennis Bovell & The Slits, Automatic may be steeped in history, but their message is contemporary, tackling millennial social media ennui head on." - The Vinyl Factory
"...strong traces of ESG, Bush Tetras, The Waitresses and Lizzy Mercierr Descloux are all present." - DJ Mag
Support from NTS Radio, BBC 6Music, BBC Radio 1's Jack Saunders
Today, LA post-punk trio Automatic release their debut album Signal, and share the video for the single ‘Strange Conversations’, directed by Byron Blum of POW!
Capturing the album’s feeling of alienation, the ‘Strange Conversations’ video stars model Sarah Abney as a lone visitor to a bar where Automatic is playing on a quiet Tuesday night. The video also features a cameo from new Stones Throw signing John Carroll Kirby.
Signal is out now on regular vinyl, limited edition bright red vinyl, CD, and on all digital platforms. Signal ties together Automatic’s taste for dub reggae, motorik rhythms, and gnarly synth work inspired by bands like NEU! and Suicide with the eerie atmosphere of films by auteurs like David Lynch and Dario Argento. Singles include ‘Too Much Money’ and ‘Calling It’, an extended version of which will feature in Celine’s show tonight at Paris Fashion Week.
