REVIEW: New Rebel Cult | Everybody Else

Words by Scott Simpson:

Right, enough! Stop what you are doing. Before even reading this review, get down and dirty with ‘Everybody Else’ from New Rebel Cult. What an absolute tune to riot to. I can see 9-5 workers for the man thrashing and trashing their much-hated offices to this tune blasting through the radio; which no doubt it will make an appearance on in days to come.

This ecstatic joyride of a song is produced by Chris Marshall of 7 West Studios, who also produced some bangers for Gerry Cinnamon and Rascalton. It’s also co-produced by Baby Strange’s lead singer, Johnny Madden. That’s quite a combination of eclectic musical talent before even thinking of the dope as fuck band themselves. The tune is violent and fast paced and carries a dark and dangerous bassline. Got to say, the guitar sounds like a weaponised and unconventional drill, finding its way through the wall next to you. Gets me bouncing, man! The anticipation before the chorus will have every fan’s heart punching out of their chest before joining in with a nearby mosh pit. “I’m just going through the motions, like everybody else is”. I find this line will be extremely relatable to the followers of New Rebel Cult as it’s what they’ll be doing every time they hear this mighty call of a banging song. The entire lyrical performance is excitingly catchy and you’ll enjoy getting it stuck in your head.

This is the band’s third release, and we’re only sinking our teeth further into the crunchy crack biscuit that is this addictive indie punk Glasgow based group. If there’s anyone in need of an instant and invigorating rush of anarchism, please report to the front desk immediately and dive headfirst into the crowd the next time you hear New Rebel Cult are playing in a venue near you. You’ll thank me. Spread the love.
