The Faim - Summer is a Curse

The Faim - Summer is a Curse

Elizabeth Anne Cairney

After the success of their first two singles, Australian breakout act ‘The Faim’ are back with their latest single ‘Summer is a Curse’.

The four piece put themselves on the map earlier in the year when they released their first single ‘Midland Line’ and from then on, things have only improved for the group - who even supported Sleeping With Sirens on their tour of Australia and New Zealand.

Co-written by the band themselves and 5 Seconds of Summer’s Ashton Irwin, ‘Summer is a Curse’ is a song that immediately evokes nostalgia in those of us who’ve grown up with the crossover genre that is pop-rock.

The general vibe of the song is interesting, and I feel the group have created something very exciting. The song’s lyrics represent the frustrating struggle that comes with taking a risk. The repetitive use of the lyrics such as “if you never try then you’ll never know” effectively illustrates this idea. The vocals on this track are matched perfectly to the song’s cool and confident pop-rock beat and it is sure to be a hit this summer.

Despite the song’s nostalgic feeling, I believe that The Faim are bringing something fresh to the genre and are a band to keep an eye on.

The group are scheduled to play Reading and Leeds festival next month - a must see act in my eyes!
