Twenty One Pilots: Sold Out Glasgow Show

Katherine Dempsie

Ohio duo, Tyler Joseph and Joshua Dun, formally known as Twenty One Pilots landed in Glasgow on the 4th of March to play a sold out show at the Hydro as part of their Bandito tour!

The boys were supported by a female fronted American Punk Rock band known as The Regrettes for the European leg of the tour. The band really looked the part as well as sounding it, the lead guitarist was rocking a sparkly orange strat to match her firey ginger hair and the front-woman had mermaid blue hair, not to mention the punky outfits the three girls displayed. They had a good crowd of people dancing and singing which only grew larger as the numbers from outside piled in.

The pilots took to the stage at 8pm sharp, opening with Josh parading the stage with a torch and ski mask on, and Tyler rising from the ground on a burning car, the pair opened with one of the first songs released from their latest album, Jumpsuit. Josh’s drums were lifted into the air as the pair performed Levitate, followed by their Blurryface track Fairy Local which featured a dark arts stunt, Tyler vanished from centre stage only to appear in row F of the seated area within milliseconds.

The infamous Blurryface era red beanie featured in a skit which played as a segway between songs, a red beanie then dangles from the roof and Tyler puts it on before beginning their smash hit, Stressed Out.

The set was exciting and engaging, with funky visuals, many outfit changes, crowd participation and seemingly impossible stage presence. Not only did Tyler use the seated area as a stage, there was a second stage at the back of the standing area that they used a walkway that descended from the roof to get to. As well as bringing themselves onto the crowd during songs, eagar fans supported Tyler’s weight and Josh and his drumkit.

Some highlights for me included Lane Boy when the crowd was encouraged to get low and jump when the beat kicked in, this was met with people in gas suits spraying smoke towards the crowd. The duo

sure do know how to put on a show. Another being the Vessel track Holding Onto You, a personal favourite.

The incredible setlist ended with a Stan favourite, another from the Vessel album, Trees. The song finished with the pilots simultaneously hitting large drums triggering confetti dropping onto the crowd.
