Two Door Cinema Club’s New Release ‘Lost Songs (Found)’

Two Door Cinema Club released an EP of unreleased tracks under the radar at the beginning of June. The indie pop rock band from Northern Ireland simply teased the release the day before and didn’t promote it at all other than that. The band released a message on their social medias adhering as to why, stating that “[they] felt it wasn’t the right time [and still isn’t] to be promoting it because of the Black Lives Matter movement…We support the fight for equality.” Other artists have taken a similar approach during these times, I think artists are eager to move forward but with everything gong on in the world a little trip down memory lane doesn’t go a miss. Fans are thrilled to have access to the 7 songs featured, with Tiptoes already making it onto their most listened to on Spotify at the moment.

“Two door cinema club just released a mini album with lost songs that were just found! Im beyond happy! Its sounds like tourist history😭” said a fan (@sugglife15) on twitter.

The songs were recorded over a decade ago and feature mainly songs that didn’t quite make it onto their debut album in 2010, Tourist History, except for the original demo of Something Good Can Work which we know made it to the album as the fifth track. It’s pretty jarring seeing how far they’ve come from recording these songs in Alex’s garage as teenagers to where they are now.

“I think it’s fun for people to listen just to see the journey we went on” - Sam Halliday, Lead Guitarist to EW.

The songs are fast paced showing their youth, however the lyrics and guitar are what we’re used to with catchy choruses and songs that are relatively up-beat and summery. What I find really special is you can definitely hear that they found their sound pretty early on, it has obviously been refined since but their roots have remained.

Long time fans will probably recognise the names, or have heard them before through leaks and videos of live performances but only a few of the songs have actually been played at a live show, and only a handful of times, if that.

We get to hear the first studio version of Hands Off My Cash Monty which the band played regularly whilst promoting Tourist History after its release. And Tiptoes which was intended for their first album but after beginning recording the band just weren’t feeling it and it “just sort of disappeared” until now, which is probably the story behind the other songs on the project.

It may not be the best quality or greatest songs they’ve written but if you’re a fan and want a new way to itch an old scratch this EP is worth the listen, for sure.
