Undestanding Alt-J's Reduxer

Undestanding Alt-J's Reduxer

It’s hard to know where to start with this album. From start to finish it is pretty unconventional and doesn’t really follow studio format that you’d expect from the large UK based band. The album is a re-work of their previous album ‘Relaxer’ and I can’t help but call this new rendition of it a ‘Sandbox Album’. Full of re-worked, re-editied, and re-energies tracks Reduxer is taking something we love and stripping it down to its bare minimum. From there the band have brought together some of their friends and colleagues, who just happen to be the likes of Pusha T, Little Simz, Tuka, and several other incredible hip-hop legends. Excluding rapper the album also features throughout each several of its tracks the talented vocals and composition work of Jimi Charles Moody, Twin Shadow, Terrace Martin, and again, many, many more legends!

As of writing this only five of the eleven tracks are out but in the meantime I highly suggest listening to what has been released along side their corresponding music videos. The simplistic themes and sometimes jittery visual encapsulate a perfect blend between the original track’s Relaxer feelings with the new tracks Reduxer vibe which conclusively leaves the viewer in a state that is more of an experience than just regular entertainment.
