Vagabonds- Weekend Messiah EP
Craig Wares
5 piece indie-pop band ‘Vagabonds’ brought out their debut EP ‘Weekend Messiah’ earlier in 2018 and it has gone down a treat with fans and critics alike. Hailing from Motherwell, this band of young gents has brought a fresh vibrant sound to indie-pop which makes perfect summer listening.
The EP kicks off with ‘All I See’ which was initially released as a single back in 2017 and is one of their most catchy tracks. From the get go, it’s all hands on deck with crashing drums, floaty guitar riffs and powerful vocals. The chorus has the perfect combination of vocal harmonies and catchy little riffs, which will get the listeners’ toes tapping and their hips moving.
‘Weekend Messiah’ definitely deserves its place as the EP’s title track. It’s just a proper feel good track from start to finish. This is a song that I can already hear a crowd singing along to…“You were the only one, who burns so bright in the summer sun, oh oh oh”. Any band that can write a song that has the listener singing along after one listen, has truly cracked song writing. And these guys certainly have cracked it.
The two final tracks on the EP ‘Static’ and ‘Wait for Me’ live up to the energy and class of the first two. ‘Wait for Me’ is one of their best tracks in my opinion. Lyrically, telling a story that we’ve all experienced with someone we ‘like’ at one point or another in our lives. If you listen to the song you’ll understand. And ‘Static’ again matches their signature upbeat sound with a sing-along chorus, lovely little riffs and a sublime bass line that leads us through the song.
Headlining ‘Broadcast’ last month and a recent support slot at King Tuts ‘Summer Nights’, these guys are really playing some class gigs as of late. With their next gig at Leith Depot on Friday 27th July, this is guaranteed to be a belter. Get along if you can and see Scotland’s next big indie-pop band at their best.
This EP truly is top notch!
