Graham Costello shares new single "Circularity"

Today, Glasgow-based drummer and composer Graham Costello has announced his new single "Circularity". The single is taken from Graham's much-anticipated album "Second Lives", which features his ensemble STRATA, and is due out 7th May via London analogue specialists Gearbox Records.

The forthcoming album was co-produced by legendary 4-time Grammy Award-winning producer Hugh Padgham, who is renowned for his work with a wide-range of seminal artists such as Phil Collins, XTC, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Brian Wilson, Paul McCartney and many, many more. Despite Hugh Padgham-produced records tallying stratospheric sales and streaming figures, "Second Lives" marks the first new material he has worked on in almost a decade.

A band leading the surge of new Scottish jazz artists into the UK scene, STRATA is made up of some of Scotland's most exciting musical proponents. Led by Graham, the band features: pianist Fergus McCreadie, whose critically acclaimed new solo album just came out via Edition Records; guitarist Joe Williamson, who was named Young Scottish Jazz Musician Of The Year in 2018 and leads hard-hitting 5-piece Animal Society; rising Trombonist Liam Shortall, who leads jazz collective corto.alto; saxophonist Harry Weir, who also leads self-proclaimed "doom-jazz" outfit AKU!; and renowned bassist Mark Hendry.

Following on the heels of their recent single "Eudaimonia", the new track is a further foray into Graham's atmospheric minimalism. As with the single that came before it, "Circularity" sees the group toying with the fragile line between tension and release, with hints of Blackstar-era Bowie within the track's calming and almost drone-like hypnotics.
